  • Jan-Jan Van Essche multi-pocket shirt-jacket that is hand-dyed using natural indigo.

Focus on: The dyeing process. In true artisanal fashion, each piece has been garment dyed by hand using natural indigo. In the atelier, Jan-Jan Van Essche and his team spent a lot of time experimenting with various fabrics. Chosen here was a blend of washi and cotton. Washi is a traditional Japanese fiber. Although labor intensive to produce, it provides a uniquely crisp, paper-like feel while accommodating a compact, tight weave that is particularly suited to this dyeing process. The result is a vibrant finish with depth, subtle color variation throughout, and a lightly crinkled texture. This shirt-jacket will age beautifully and develop further character with wear.

    - One-piece body construction. Seamless shoulders and sides allow the fabric to drape naturally. Added-on collar, cuffs, and pockets.
    - Classic collar.
    - Button front closure.
    - Stitched-on front panel that creates four individual patch pockets.
    - Narrow barrel cuffs with two button fastening that allows the fit of the sleeve to be adjusted.
    - Seam details at the back.
    - Rounded hem (slightly longer in the back).
    - Constructed from a washi-cotton blend with a tight, compact weave and dry, crisp feel. Hand-dyed using natural indigo.

Additional Information: For those already familiar with Jan-Jan Van Essche’s work (and sizing), please note that this style fits slightly slimmer due to the hand-dyeing process. As such, those specifically desiring a traditional Jan-Jan Van Essche fit / silhouette may prefer to go one size larger than their regular size.
